At the end of 2011 Kevin Pringle bought a house that has a grass verge at the front which meets the raised kerb at the edge of the carriageway. He soon found that drivers would mount the kerb and cause unsightly damage to the grass verge.
After an extensive search for a means to prevent this, he found that the most common solution was to put big boulders around the edge of the lawn.
Whilst this solution does work it looks untidy and prevents proper lawn maintenance.
This then inspired Kevin to begin his four year journey to develop a solution that was economical and simple enough for him to produce at home.
By 2016 he had Smart Fence and realising how commercially viable it is, he decided to protect the design with a patent and applied to the IPO in May 2017.
The first prototype was made in his garage. This was then taken to a fabrication company who produced 12 copies of it in 2020.
In 2021 he employed a marketing company who did market research, all with a positive outcome.
The patent was granted in June 2021.
