Using RC control electronics to enhance childrens’ entertainment show

However, for this project the reverse is true. Tommy Balaam is the founder and manager of Captain Fantastic (www.captain-fantastic.co.uk). He has developed a number of magic tricks and one of these is Professor Spy Brain which is mounted on the side of a puppet show booth.

This features eyes that slide from side to side and a mouth that slides up and down. Until recently this was achieved by having to position an assistant behind the booth who could manually operate the sliders in synch’ with a recorded voice.

Tommy wanted to improve on that by using a remote-control device.

We used micro servo motors mounted on the inside of the booth to provide the slider actuation along a with transmitter and receiver. The system has been supplied as a kit for Tommy to install himself.

Tommy rents out the booths to other entertainers and has many other tricks. Several other projects are under development.
